The short version
Every calculator on this site runs in JavaScript, on your device. When you type your dog's weight into the puppy weight calculator, that number is handled by code running in your browser and is never transmitted anywhere. There is no form submission, no API call, no database. We couldn't show you your own calculation history if you asked, because we don't have it.
That isn't a policy we adopted. It's a consequence of how the site is built, which is the only kind of privacy promise worth anything.
What we don't collect
- Your pet's name. Optional on several tools, purely so the result card can say "Buddy's result" instead of "your dog's result". It stays in your browser's memory and is gone when you close the tab. It is deliberately excluded from shareable links.
- Your pet's weight, age, breed, or anything they ate. Never transmitted.
- Your email address. There is no signup, no newsletter, no "enter your email to see your results". We think email-gating a chocolate toxicity result is indefensible, and several sites do it.
- Accounts. There aren't any.
- Quality of life scores. This one matters. If you are scoring an old dog on the quality of life page, that is nobody's business but yours and your vet's. It stays on your device.
What is stored on your device
Three small things, all local to your browser, none of them sent to us:
- Your theme choice (light or dark), in
localStorage, so the site doesn't flash white at you every visit. - Your unit preference (lb or kg, oz or g), in
sessionStorage, so you don't have to reset it on every page. It clears when you close the browser. - Your cookie choice, in
localStorage, so we don't ask twice.
You can clear all of it any time by clearing your browser's site data. Nothing breaks.
Shareable result links
Some calculators have a "copy link to this result" button. When you click it, your inputs are encoded into the URL so that opening that link re-runs the same calculation. The data enters the URL only when you press that button, and the link goes wherever you send it.
Your pet's name is deliberately left out of those links, on the grounds that you might paste one into a group chat without thinking about it.
Server logs
This site is hosted on shared hosting, and like essentially every web server, it keeps standard access logs: IP address, timestamp, the page requested, browser user-agent, referring page. These are generated by the hosting infrastructure, are used only for security and diagnosing faults, and are not combined with anything else or used to build any profile of you.
Analytics and advertising
At the time of writing, this site loads no analytics and no ads, and makes no third-party requests at all. No fonts from a CDN, no tracking pixels, nothing. Every asset comes from this domain.
We intend to add analytics, and eventually advertising, because the site costs money to run. When we do:
- They will be blocked until you accept. The consent banner is a functional gate, not decoration — the third-party scripts sit inert in the page and are not activated unless you say yes. Decline and they never run.
- You can change your mind any time via Cookie settings in the footer.
- Advertising, if it appears, will set cookies. That's how advertising works, and we'd rather say so than bury it.
- No ads will ever appear beside an emergency result or on the quality of life results view. That is enforced in the code on both the server and the client, and pasting an ad tag in cannot override it.
- If you're in the EEA, Google requires its own certified consent tool for personalised ads; we'll use it.
This section will be updated with the specifics on the day anything is actually added, not before.
Children
This site isn't directed at children and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone. Given that we collect essentially nothing from anyone of any age, this section is largely academic.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, the CCPA and similar laws you have rights to access, correct, delete and port your personal data. We've tried to make those rights trivial to exercise by never holding the data.
For the server logs described above, or if you've emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, write to us via the contact page and we'll handle it.
We do not sell personal information. We have none to sell.
External links
We name veterinary sources — Merck, AAHA, the ASPCA, WSAVA, the AKC and others — throughout the site, and occasionally link them. Their privacy practices are their own. We have no relationship with any of them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially — and adding analytics would count — we'll update the date at the top and describe what changed. We won't quietly widen it.
